Confessions of a Computer Nerd
I am a Computer Nerd! Check out my score from the nerd quiz! You can click on it to see how much of a nerd you are!
I guess I have always been a nerd. There was my 7th grade to 9th grade obsession with Star Trek the Next Generation! I became a true 'Trekkie” when me and my friends got dropped off at a convention center in Detroit for a STAR TREK Convention. (I had to pay $20 of my babysitting money!!) Let me just tell you it was amazing! No, I didn't dress up as a Vulcan (I only wish) ha! But there were booths and all the Star Trek junk you could want. I even waited in line for 3 hours to get a signature from Mirina Sirtis (Counselor Troi) and Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura). I even have a picture of me, my sister, and my friends with Counselor Troi!! Ha!
Other than Star Trek, my next biggest obsession is The Simpsons. They were on at 10:00 PM and Star Trek was on at 11:00 PM. I figured out how to program my parents VCR in their room. Every night the VCR would record Simpsons. I then would have to switch the VHS at 10:30 so that I could record Star Trek. When I got engaged, I had to clean out my college apartment. My husband was taken aback that I had over 100 episodes of Stark Trek and Simpons taped on VHS. HA!!
I was still a pretty big nerd in high school. In Calculus, out teacher told us that whoever had the best Halloween costume could get extra credit. I helped plan a 'group' costume. We formed a human pyramid to resemble Pascal’s Triangle and we all got extra credit. I made a scrapbook in High School and I now have a scrapbook page for each of my AP classes. I even scanned one of the pages and made it into a mouse pad for my Chemistry teacher.
Even though I was a big nerd, I had a lot of friends. I guess my high school was breeding ground for nerds like me! I was voted Homecoming Princess and Homecoming Queen (Revenge of the Nerds Part I & II). I was voted “Class Clown” and “Most Respected.” Quite the combination! Ha!
I wasn't much of a computer nerd until College. I decided to major in Information Systems on a whim. (I didn't even know how to 'right click' at that point!). But soon I realized I had a knack for computers. Even more so, I got along REALLY well with my fellow computer nerds. They were obsessed with Star Trek and Simpsons as much as I was. I worked at a data center and I was so excited that they had named the servers after Simpson and Star Trek characters. ha!! I was still single in College and my dad asked me if I had met anyone in my classes, where I was the token girl in a sea of guys. I told my dad, “The odds are good, but the GOODS are ODD.” Ha!
Even this year, I was at a college football game. I was watching the marching band at half time. I was excited that they were playing the Star Trek theme song. Then, I realized that they made a formation to resemble the Enterprise!! It was amazing! I told my husband and he told me I was probably the only one in the stadium that noticed and appreciated it!
So I was thinking about this new site of mine. I was thinking that this site is helping me get in touch with my inner nerd.
Hopefully I can help teach people and help them realize that we all can be a little more nerdy

I don’t think you even needed to take a test on this one – Suz and Becca may score pretty close. I on the other hand never took an AP class and instead went to the alternative high school half day – I suppose that labels me as a misfit not a nerd.
